Here’s the run down on the *ahem* 5 hour appointment with the amazing neuro ophthalmologist at chop. They did hours and hours of tests. Looked at scans and marveled at the size of his tumor *eyes rolling*. People, hello we are not desiring to be interesting or a spectacle. Just tell us if our son can see or not! Many many tests. Then, they put in the eye drops. Oh dear God in heaven. The screaming was phenomenally loud. It was straight up ear drum breaking anger. Yes, i promised no pokes or needles. But, *fail* I neglected to discuss the drops with him and how they might burn a bit. Yes, the world ended 3 hours into this 5 hour appointment. Thank God I have Netflix on an old tablet computer and a bob stroller. He laid down in it after he shattered glass in the waiting room and watched a few kid shows. Then more tests. the verdict?
IT IS A MIRACLE HE HAS 30/50 VISION IN BOTH EYES WITH NO PREPHERIAL VISION LOSS WHATSOEVER! PRAISE GOD!
The doctor expected some to total vision loss in one eye. He was dumbfounded that his vision was in tact. so much so that he called a montage on doctors in to look over his scans and watch him repeat some of the tests. It was a dr party. really…
there’s always a BUT, and you know its coming. the kid runs into things right in front of him all the time. No, it’s not because he is 4 and clumsy. It’s that damm brain damage again. He can see everything. But, his brain can’t put it all together. His brain can not integrate what he sees into a thing sometimes. sometimes. It’s so confusing. You must understand the brain damage is so hard to pin down and it affects everything.
so, the long of the short is. His vision being not damaged is a miracle! His brain damage prevents it from being effective.
So tired, Faith
